Playroom Renovation Continues
The playroom was a disaster - at some point this room was added to the house. They built it directly on top of the concrete patio and layed cork on top, so when the concrete cracked, the whole floor cracked with it. They used ceiling tiles and glued them to the underlay of the roof (no insulation in this room). A roof leak, since resolved, caused staining of the ceiling tiles.
On the low slope of the room, tiles were tacked on this grid to make room for wiring. We had the tiles pulled off and replaced them with drywall.
We removed the window to make way for a slider.
The new subfloor will eliminate potential cracking in our new flooring and allows a smooth transition from the living space into the playroom.
With the subfloor complete, the slider goes in!
The ceiling tiles are down and the drywall is installed. Four canned lights were installed in the low part of the ceiling. The small door to the backyard was removed and closed in making the slider the only exit to the backyard. One scary thing we discovered yesterday was that the room was wired incorrectly and almost caused a fire. The metal around the light bulb stem was burned and some melted! When the workers pulled it down, the lightbulb shattered!
All that remains are minor details! With a trip to IKEA under our belts, we have kid friendly rugs and furniture ready to go. We'll paint and install Pergo next!
